"Phantom, the American Music Sensation"
MPA's production is the musical written by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit, the authors of the Broadway musicals, "Titantic" and "Nine". Based on Gaston Leroux's original 1910 novel, this musical is frequently described as the most successful musical never to have played on Broadway.
Experience a fuller, richer version of Phantom with a more developed plot and background, deeper characters, beautiful lyrics and soaring melodies. The Lloyd Webber musical, under the brilliantly creative eye of director Harold Prince, is far more horrid in its approach to its mysterious, nameless, murderous monster. It is a drama that emphasizes the horrifying and the macabre. Kopit's Phantom has a name, Erik, and he is portrayed as a sad, unfortunate human being forced to grow up in the shadows to protect him from the public derision that would meet his horrible, freakish facial deformity.
